Mama, I’m coming home!

Maybe for the first time in her 7 years, our Lena is coming home to her very own family with a woman she has loved for a long time while her mama has loved her every day.  Our early morning, Kim is now officially Lena’s Mama.

There are some special cats that when we get to know them, we decide that, at that time, spending their life at FFRC is in their best interest.  And sometimes, love intervenes and we just know, Lena has decided “Please let me come home, I need to be with this family.  They are now my family.”

And so, get the tissues out and if you know any employees who work at the Defiance, Ohio Meijers, thank them again, because they were key in bringing Lena to FFRC back in 2019. 

She came as a new mama herself, having had 5 precious babies born behind a soda machine in the supermarket’s Garden Center. They didn’t ignore her, they got her help.  They saved her and her babies’ lives.

For those who don’t know her story, Lena had been living in the Garden Center of a local supermarket (Meijier’s).  The staff tried to catch her for many months, unsuccessfully.  They even named her Lena, in honor of the founder of Meijier’s, Fred Meijier’s, wife.  Her name was Lena.

Somewhere along the way, Lena met up with another cat and had 5 little kittens.  She tried hiding them behind a soda machine but she was finally found when they were only a few days old.

All her babies were eventually adopted and Lena decided to stay on at FFRC.  She loves, loves, loves counters. And if there is a window, more than likely she will be sitting in it, taking the beauty all in. 

She’s seven years old and a beautiful kitty cat.  It is estimated she was around 1 when she decided to go shopping and give birth.  It took about a month to catch her.  And when caught, she and her precious babies were saved by a group of employees who refused to turn away.

Each of her kittens were able to be adopted out to loving homes.  Her kittens names were: Aleesha, Aleeta, Avianna, Arwen and AppleJack. They were known as “the A kittens”.

And now, our Lena is officially Kim’s Lena.  And as she hugs Kim we know she is whispering:
